What Are Implants?
Before the development of dental implants, dentures were the only alternative to replacing a missing tooth or teeth.
The dental implant procedure allows a synthetic structure to be placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. Implants are anchored to the jawbone or to a metal framework on the bone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth or permanent bridge. In some cases, implants can be used to attach dentures.
Benefits Of Dental Implants
Implants are so well designed that they mimic the look and feel of natural teeth and are usually made of a synthetic yet biocompatible material like metal or ceramic.
Research also shows that you are more likely to maintain natural teeth around the site of an implant.
Like any restoration, implants require diligent oral hygiene and proper care to ensure they last a long time. However, they do not decay the way natural teeth do, and allow you to return to normal function unlike dentures and other false teeth.
How Is The Procedure Done?
Surgery is necessary to prepare the area for an implant and place the implant in the mouth. Following the procedure, a period of time is required for the implant to take hold and for bone tissue to build up and anchor the device. In some cases, metal posts are inserted into the implant during a follow-up procedure to connect the tooth.
Because implants require surgery, patients are administered anesthesia and, if necessary, antibiotics to stave off infection following the procedure.
Caring For Implants
In all cases, dental implants require strict oral hygiene. Our doctors will provide you with all of the information you need so that your implants will last trouble-free for a long time.
Are Dental Implants Right For You?
Not everyone is a candidate for a dental implant. For a successful implant to take hold, a candidate must have proper bone density and have a strong immune system.
Ask our doctors about your circumstances to find out if dental implants are a viable option.
“My husband had trouble with his teeth since a young age. He had complicated and very expensive dental work done, all implants, practically no teeth left of his own.
Things started to get worse and he was very uncomfortable. That’s when I found Dr. Rooney.
Dr. Chris was very honest and presented a well-planned strategy. Dr. Chris literally had to start from scratch and it took about a year to complete all the work.
Everything went according to plan, my husband was never uncomfortable and he was free from pain. There is not a day that goes by without my husband’s praise for Dr. Chris.”Marina
